Our granddaughter, Jillian, graduated from BYU Idaho this month. We met her family in Idaho Falls on the 10th where Andrea had rented a house in which we all could stay. The next day was Jillian's graduation ceremony. The graduation was in two parts - a full procession of the whole school with speakers congratulating the graduates and then an individual department ceremony where the graduates walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. Jillian sang in the choir so she was on stage for the first part of the graduation. The choir numbers were amazing. The cameras zeroed in on our beautiful Jillian at one time.

We took pictures between the two session as we had to wait about an hour before her department graduation took place.
Lydia was no able to join us as she had rehearsals for the school musical in which she was playing Mary Poppins.
The second part of the graduation ceremonies took quite a long time but it was fun to watch Jillian walk across the stage to be recognized for all her hard work. She was studying microbiology and almost finished with her degree when she became a FSY counselor a couple of summers ago. After that experience, she had a strong impression that she needed to go into teaching high school sciences. That meant a few more science classes and all her education classes. This delayed her finishing school by about a year but she was following promptings from the Lord. We are so proud of her. She will be doing her student teaching this Fall at Bingham high school in South Jordan. (This is the school that all of Jon's boys have attended. Jaiden will be a senior there this Fall.)
The next morning, we all got up early to make an 8 am session at the Idaho Falls temple. It was wonderful being in the temple with so many family members. We went home for lunch and then Paul and I went to the movies, while the rest of the Westovers went to move Jillian out of her apartment. The next day, Saturday, we all left for our homes. It was so fun to be with the Andrea and her family. They love to sing and laugh and we did a lot of that, especially laughing as we played a story game two of the nights we were there. Such a great time.
As soon as we returned home from Idaho, we called a meeting of our committee to make the final arrangements for our adult ward activity. We had decided to do a road rally and ice cream social. The road rally consisted of several activities for the groups to choose from that they were to video them doing as a group. The second part of the rally was finding historical sites around Heber based on clues we gave them. They needed to do at least 2 video activity and find 2 historical sights plus designing one original video. Each group was to come back to the church within an hour for ice cream and showing their videos and pictures to the rest of the groups. The activity was held the last Saturday of the month. It was a great night for those who came. We only had 28 of us come but they all had a ball. There was so much laughter as the videos were shown. We had videos of groups dancing to music down an aisle at Smith's, reading scriptures aloud while sitting on a bench on Main Street, feeding farm animals, and even rolling down a hill. One of the group's original video was toilet papering our backyard. Gratefully, they cleaned it all up before they left. Another original video was a slow motion 'wave' taken while sitting in the Wasatch high school football field bleachers. So clever. One sister texted me afterward to thank us for letting them become teenagers again. For those who came it was a great success and an activity they will remember for a long time. We just wished more people would have joined in the fun.
This gravestone marked the way to the grave of Chief Tabby's son. Chief Tabby was the leader of the Indians living in this valley and with whom a peace treaty was signed with the saints.
A statue stands on the corner of the Heber City park depicting this historical figure.
The hall all ready for the rally/ice cream social. Note the matchbox cars on the tables. I had made roads for each table as well as the serving tables and placed several cars along the roads.
April is always a time for lots of yard work. Paul is very meticulous about getting under all the bushes for leaves that have fallen. He, then, pulls all the weeds and cultivates the bark. It's all a lot of work especially when he decides to take out plants and trees. He cut down a tree and took out a huge dogwood plant in the backyard. While he was digging out the plant, he got stung on his hand by a ground wasp. It hurt like crazy and for the next two days swelled up. After taking Benedryll and icing his hand the swelling finally went down. The yard looks great and all his hard work is appreciated, not only by me but by the neighbors.
We got an invitation to attend the welcoming of the new basketball coach. Coach Pope left BYU to coach at Kentucky, his old alma mater. We were upset for a while until they announced the name of the new coach, Kevin Young. He is presently as assistant coach for the Arizona Suns, a professional basketball team. After hearing him talk, we think we got an upgrade in coaching. It will be an exciting year to see what he can do with the team.
After the welcoming meeting, we ran into 'Foos', a favorite basketball player for the team. He used to hang out with a roommate of our granddaughter Aubrey.
The last thing that happened in the month was my birthday. Todd brought up steaks for dinner. Aubrey and Charlotte joined us and we had a great time. It was fun to have Aubrey back in our home for Sunday dinner. She has returned to BYU for the Spring and Summers sessions of school. This would be the last time for Charlotte to come to dinner for 6 weeks as she is doing a study abroad program in London, England. Aria and Avery made me some darling cards complete with birthday riddles written on them. Todd and Kailee brought up two delicious candied apples and both Charlotte and Aubrey gave me flowers. A wonderful birthday celebration.
The chocolates were from the Westovers and the huge geranium plant was from Joyce and Jeff Smith, our neighbors.
